Once more into the breach

Monday should be the big day for the Higher Ed budget, so it would be worth making one more contact with key legislators on the importance of this budget for our institution.

The legislative leaders are, we're sure, being lobbied hot and heavy by all sides and are dealing with lots of budget scenarios, schedules and spreadsheets. In other words, they're not on campus, not necessarily aware of the impact that a steep cut would have on programs, faculty, students and the institution. They need to hear from ordinary people about the impact it would have on real lives.

If you can, please take some time to contact Speaker Buckley at bbuckley@asm.state.nv.us or 775-684-8537, and let her know that you are a faculty member and give her -- in polite, respectful and factual terms -- your personal sense of what its been like working with a budget that has already cut its budget by 10% this year ...and what it would mean to your department, program, colleagues and students to have to cut that much again next year.
