The recommendation is for a 2-year contract followed by a one-year contract during which the Board will consider whether to conduct a performance review for a contract renewal or a full search. The Board will consider this recommendation at a special meeting next week.
The Chancellor's report includes lengthy summaries of input from all the groups with which he met including the cabinet, the Deans, the Faculty Senate, an NFA contingent (which delivered a summary of points made by members), student leaders, alumni and others.
We congratulate Provost Smatresk and we offer him all good wishes in steering UNLV forward. In then end, of course, the success of UNLV will depend less on the name of the single individual at the top of the masthead and much more on how well we all work together in support of our shared mission. We pledge whatever support NFA can offer to him in this endeavor of collectively governing UNLV and, of course, we remain committed to being a responsible advocate for faculty as the campus moves forward from the past few turbulent weeks.
