State may consider 30 % pay cuts for faculty and staff

Today's RJ confirms the message that we sent out last night; that if you didn't believe in the past that you needed to be involved, then you know now that you do.

Mark Taylor, deputy state controller, estimated that saving $1 billion through pay cuts, if implemented in March, would mean reducing salaries of state workers, teachers and university and community college faculty and support staff by 25 percent to 30 percent through June 30, 2011.

The leader of the state classified employee's union says there will be "massive layoffs."

Even by Nevada standards, the idea of massive layoffs and pay cuts of one-third without any discussion of additional revenue from highly profitable industries, is galling.

If it ticks you off too, get involved.
