A state budget proposal to be unveiled today by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) is expected to avert significant funding reductions to the state's public colleges and universities. State higher education officials praised the news but remain concerned about the loss of federal stimulus dollars next year. Over the next two years, Louisiana is expected to face a $3 billion budget shortfall.

On our way to owning last place in higher education
Its not only that Nevada is going to have cut nearly 40% over three years, its that other states -- conservative, anti-tax states with deep deficits -- are increasing funding for higher ed (like Florida) or, as we learn today about Louisiana, keeping it constant:
