The state Senate last night approved in a bipartisan vote the Nevada Domestic Partnership Act sponsored by David Parks, who represents the UNLV district. The NFA has strongly supported this bill and the principle of domestic partnerships (including health benefits, which were taken out of this bill), and we will continue to support it as it is considered by the Assembly and eventually goes to the Governor for approval.
Governor Gibbons has said he will veto the bill because he "does not believe in it."
I thought I'd depart from strictly academic matters to illustrate why the NFA supports this principle, by linking to a vivid illustration of precisely the sort of committed, long-term families whose rights would be protected by this bill -- and in which the Governor does not believe.
