The size of the budget shortfall is not precisely known, but we do know the projected shortfall of $900 million could be catastrophic for the colleges and universities. You are encouraged to attend the meeting in person, at one of the video conferencing sites, or on the web. It is important that all faculty recognize the severity of these cuts, and to learn something of the proposed solutions. A full report will be forthcoming after the Regents' meeting.
Also the Interim Finance Committee of the state legislature will hold hearings this week in Carson City on the budget shortfall. Thursday February 4's hearings will cover education budgets, with Higher Education scheduled for 1pm. These, too, will be webcast live.
