Students camped out at NV legislature to support higher education

Live updates from students encamped at Nevada state legislature to advocate for quality education:

Our students took busses at 3am Monday, rode 8 hours, then camped out in tents ...in the rain ...it was in the 40s last night. And they'll be there until the NSHE budget closes on Wednesday morning.

All you have to do is pick up the phone and contact key legislators now in support of a compromise to ensure adequate funding for affordable, quality higher education in Nevada.

[Update from Nevada Student Alliance's Kyle George: "Senator Brower said he got "an email" from a teacher who said that he supported a cut to his salary. Senator Brower also said that education in Nevada is quite adequate, and that the only problem with ed, is that we speak ill of it. Call <775-684-1419> or email Senator Brower and set the record straight."

(NDLR: Senator Brower may be confused about the depth of cuts being proposed for higher education, since he missed the Senate floor discussion of this important issue last month. He was, it was later discovered, in his state Senate office making calls to organize his next political campaign for a higher office.)]

  1. Senator Brower said he got "an email" from a teacher who said that he supported a cut to his salary. Senator Brower also said that education in Nevada is quite adequate, and that the only problem with ed, is that we speak ill of it. Call/email Senator Brower and set the record straight (and spread the word).
